Fixed costs – electricity and gas

Finanzverwaltung für den Haushalt
You want to save ten euros each week. But how to get started?
To decide that, you first need to know what your fixed costs, or fixed expenses, are.
Only if you know how much money you need to spend each month

Fixed costs: electricity and gas
Ascertaining your energy expenses can be tricky. Meters are read only once a year. So you only ever know with hindsight how much power and gas you have actually used during a twelve-month period. Last year’s energy consumption is then used as a basis to project how much you will need next year. The expected sum is split into monthly (or quarterly) bills you have to pay. At the end of the year, the gas and power meters are read. Now you may have to make an additional payment because you have used more energy than in the previous year. That automatically raises your fixed costs for the coming year. If you have used less than you paid for, however, the remainder will be credited to you, and you pay less for the coming year.
You can choose which supplier to buy your power and gas from. If you switch to a supplier that offers cheaper rates, your fixed expenses will go down as well.

Want to switch suppliers to save on fixed costs? This is what you do!

Go to the website of E-Control and click on the Tarifkalkulator (tariff calculator tool) Enter your postal code and the number of persons living in your household. Then enter how many kilowatt hours you use per year. You will find this number on your annual billing statement. Don’t worry if you have lost it – the calculator tool will estimate how much you are using.
When you have entered the requested information, click “Start” and you will receive a list of suppliers whose tariffs are suitable for you. The top one is always the cheapest option in your situation. You can simply click on the name, fill out a registration form online and send it to the new power supplier of your choice.
