You will of course discuss your future career with family and friends. They are not professional career advisors, however, and probably only know a fraction of the thousands of different occupations that exist in Austria. So you might miss out on a good idea. Whether you've just finished compulsory school or are heading towards your A-levels, it's worth considering an apprenticeship. Why? Find out in the article 3 good reasons for an apprenticeship. Psychological counselling

School pupils may also ask regional school psychologist for help. Students and those planning to go to university find psychological counselling services for students in every Austrian city with a university. There you can get individual advice on which field of study may be suitable for you. If you are uncertain about academic studies, take a look at the section “Should I go to university?"

FAQ

Take an interest test such as the one offered by the AMS, BIC.at or the Upper Austrian Chamber of Labor – this will give you suggestions that match your strengths and preferences.
There are over 200 apprenticeships – many of which you don’t even know about. Perhaps one of them is perfect for you, without you even having it on your radar.
Counseling centers such as the BIZ of the AMS, the chambers of commerce or the psychological student counseling service provide you with free and individual support.
Then take your time, inform yourself, talk to professionals and try out tools such as interest profiles or taster apprenticeships – this will help you move forward step by step.
