How safe is online banking?

Internetbanking
The use of online banking services has become widespread in recent years. People use them routinely as a convenient way of managing their finances from home or via their mobile phones.
Protect your data
Security is key in online banking. Security processes are continuously being improved by the banks to protect their clients against data theft and online fraud. Here are some tips on what you can do to make your banking transactions as secure as possible. Whatever you do, take care to protect your data.

The top 9 tips for safe online banking

Update your operating system and browser regularly and always use current software versions.
Install a firewell to protect your PC against access from outside.
Using up-to-date anti-virus software with anti-spyware functionality protects your computer and smartphone against dangerous viruses.
Check every time to make sure that you access you bank’s real website and always use an encrypted https connection.
Change your password and PIN for online banking regularly – it’s best to do this once a month.
Never store access data on you computer and always end online banking sessions by clicking on the “logout” button.
Beware of online phishing and attempts at identity theft. These often come in the guise of e-mails with a deceptively genuine look which pretend to originate from a bank. In fact, they are sent by criminals who try to get hold of your online access data pretending to provide security services. Never fil in any forms you receive by e-mail! A real bank would NEVER ask you to disclose confidential access data by telephone or e-mail.
Beware of Trojan horses! Trojan horses, or Trojans for short, are a type of malware – software programmes that hackers install on people’s computers to get access to the user data and pass the information on to other criminals. When a PC has been infected with a Trojan, it may call up fake websites on the screen which ask the user to type in passwords, TANS, and other confidential information.
If you have any suspicion of foul play, never disclose any personal details and contact your bank immediately.
