How can I control my spending?

You haven’t really bought anything – your money has somehow just gone. If you know this feeling, then you probably need a plan. A budget plan.
Why does money always melt away so fast?
Always broke? Money runs through your fingers like water? You are not alone in this. Most of the time, the reason is that we tend to spend small amounts without thinking twice. € 2.50 for a soft drink at the sausage stand, € 3.50 for a magazine, € 4 for a new brand of hair gel.
The small amounts keep adding up, so money that you’ve just withdrawn from your account is gone in no time at all. And nothing is left for major purchases. Some expenses cannot be avoided: Rent, electricity, gas, insurance, food – all your fixed costs. But you can reduce nearly all of these costs, for example by turning down the heating, cooking at home instead of dining out or buying convenience products, drinking water instead of expensive soft drinks or energy drinks.

A budget? Isn’t that rather petty?

To be able to save some money, you first need to know where it is all going. And a budget helps you do just that: It has columns for income and expenses where you note down all the sums you earn and spend. So you can see where you stand and where you can easily save some money. It is actually very simple and straightforward: Every euro you do not spend will remain yours. And if you really, really want something at some point, you will then have enough money for it. You do not have to use a granny-style household book for your budget. There are apps you can install on your mobile. Or you can download our ready-to-use budget template.
